What is Bay Harbor Islands actually like?
Bay Harbor Islands is a town on two islands, and the town describes them in different terms. West Island is the island of detached homes. East Island holds apartment buildings, businesses and civic buildings. The town's own planning material also describes East Island's older MiMo buildings, a mid-century style with concrete screenwork, geometric detailing and roof lines that reach outward. This page does not say how many of those buildings remain.
Kane Concourse is the shop and restaurant street on East Island. Along it you find Pura Vida Miami Bay Harbor, a cafe with an all-day menu, and Coffee Break, a coffee shop. You also find Emilio's Trattoria, Kinoko Sushi Bar & Asian Cuisine, Reforming Pilates and Milla Dance Fit. The Palm sits nearby on East Bay Harbor Drive.
95th Street is the town's civic and business street. Open Kitchen, a cafe and restaurant with weekend brunch and outdoor seating, is there, along with Bay Harbor Mini Mart and Bay Harbor Tailor Cleaners & Alterations. The street also holds the town's municipal center, the Morris N. Broad Community Center, the Bay Harbor Islands Branch Library and the town tennis courts.
For open air, the town lists several parks. Officer Scott A. Winters Park has a splash pad, a pavilion, play equipment and a dog run next door. The Bay Harbor Islands Tot Lot has shaded play equipment, a pavilion and open green space. 92nd Street Park has a dog run, exercise equipment, benches and picnic tables, and 95th Street Park has benches and picnic tables. North Passive Park and South Passive Park are listed by name, and this page does not list their features.
Some of the shopping you may expect is outside town. Bay Harbor Mini Mart is a small neighborhood grocery in town, and it is not a full-size supermarket. The Publix with a pharmacy is in Surfside, and Whole Foods Market is in North Miami. This page does not rank them by distance or give a drive time.
The same is true of hospitals. Mount Sinai Medical Center is in Miami Beach, and the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial is in Miami. Both are outside town.

The town's January 2026 newsletter listed a movie night at 95th Street Park and an arts event on Kane Concourse. That was a single announcement, so this page does not call either one a regular event.
What is the weather like in Bay Harbor Islands, and does it flood?
It is hot and wet in summer and mild in winter. A normal here means the 30-year average from 1991 to 2020. At the Miami Beach station, the January normal high is 73.6°F and the low is 61.2°F, and the August normal high is 88.1°F and the low is 78.1°F. The yearly rainfall normal is 57.18 inches.
Heat comes often. 29.6 days a year reach at least 90°F, a count that includes days that hit exactly 90°F. It is not a count of days above 90°F, which is a different measure that this page does not report. Warm, wet summers favor outdoor plans in the morning or evening, away from midday heat and afternoon rain.
These figures are from a Miami Beach station outside Bay Harbor Islands. The distance from the station to the town was not measured, and no instrument in town was used, so read the numbers as a coastal guide.
On flood, the town's own page states that the whole town lies in a FEMA special flood hazard area. That statement does not tell you the flood zone, the ground height or the evacuation zone of one house. The specific property still needs its flood and building documents checked before you offer.
For wind and insurance, Florida uses a wind mitigation form, the state's OIR-B1-1802, to record roof, connection, water-resistance and opening-protection features. Insurers publish rate filings, but a filing does not tell you what a quote for one house will be, so ask for a quote on the house itself.
How do you get around Bay Harbor Islands without a train?
You use a bus, an on-request ride or a car, because no rail line runs through town. The county system map shows bus service and no in-town rail. This page gives no travel times, because none was established for the town and a trip depends on your address and the hour.
Table 3. Ways to get around Bay Harbor Islands, as of 10 October 2026.
| Way to travel | What it is | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Metrobus 125 | Miami-Dade bus route that crosses town on the Broad Causeway and Kane Concourse, between Surfside and Miami Dade College North Campus | The current timetable and real waits on the Miami-Dade Transit site |
| Freebee | The town's on-demand local ride service, which replaced the old fixed-route town shuttle | Current hours and service area |
| Car | The Broad Causeway is the road to the mainland | Your own peak-hour trip, which this page did not time |
| Rail | None in town. Brightline Aventura Station is outside town | Your own access trip to any station |
The Metrobus 125 schedule is a plan, not a record of how buses actually run, and no on-time figure was found for it. Other nearby places you may need are all outside town: Miami Dade College North Campus, Miami International Airport, Mount Sinai Medical Center and Ryder Trauma Center. Before you commit to a house, run the trip you would make on a weekday morning.
Which schools serve Bay Harbor Islands, and how are they assigned?
The district assigns schools by home address, so the town name does not decide it. Miami-Dade County Public Schools makes the assignment, and the lookup needs the full street address of the house. Two homes on one street can be assigned differently, and the 2026–2027 line for each address was not confirmed for this page.
Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor K-8 Center is a school location inside town. Miami Beach Senior High School is in Miami Beach, outside town. Those are places on a map, and neither is a promise that your address is assigned there. Confirm the assignment with the district before you rely on it.
Where can I check schools and crime information for Bay Harbor Islands?
Big Data Realty does not rate schools. Ratings and reviews are on GreatSchools. Miami-Dade County Public Schools' Find Your Neighborhood School confirms which school an address is assigned to, and the state publishes official school reports at the Florida Department of Education School Accountability Reports. Check them for the most recent information, because boundaries and reports change every school year.
For crime information, check the most recent reports directly with the Bay Harbor Islands Police Department.
Who does Bay Harbor Islands suit?
It suits you if your priorities match what the town offers, and it asks more of you on a few points.
- If you want a detached home, West Island is the island the town describes that way. If you want an apartment-style building near shops, East Island is the island the town describes with multifamily buildings.
- If you need a train to get to work, this town does not have one, so you would use the bus, Freebee or a car.
- If a full-size supermarket is part of your week, the Publix and Whole Foods stores named here are outside town.
- If ownership cost drives your choice, Florida's homestead rules, the Save Our Homes cap and portability can limit how fast a qualifying home's assessed value rises. They do not cap a sale price, and the seller's tax bill is not a guide to yours.
- If you are weighing how much to offer, flood and insurance checks on the house belong in that number.
